After skirting the Kent coast, the train stops at Folkestone West where you are met by your guide who will accompany you on the transfer to 'The Leas' at Folkestone. On arrival you will have some free time (approximately 90 minutes) to stretch your legs.

Folkestone was the epitome of a fashionable seaside resort and you can still experience its Edwardian elegance by strolling along The Leas, a broad, clifftop promenade, lined with grand, white buildings, where once ladies and gentlemen walked arm in arm, dressed in their finery.

But Folkestone wasn’t always airs and graces. From the 17th century onwards, the town teemed with smugglers, quick to take advantage of the short crossing from France and the shallow beaches on which it was easy to draw up a boat. Some of the places where they carried out their deals, such as the Valiant Sailor Inn, still exist in the town today.
