Standing high on a basalt outcrop, overlooking the North Sea, Bamburgh Castle is one of the most impressive looking castles in England. The massive stone walls have witnessed dark tales of royal rebellion, bloody battles and spellbinding legends.
From £325 Per Person
What's Included:
Brunch with Bellini on outward journey, castle visit and brief coach tour, sumptuous dinner with champagne and wine on return journey.
Your Journey:
Once home to the kings of ancient Northumbria, Bamburgh Castle is one of Northumberland's most iconic buildings. The Bamburgh castle we see today is a relatively recent structure, built by famed industrialist the first Lord Armstrong at vast cost in late Victorian times. But the castle boasts a much longer history. There have been settlements on the site since prehistoric times and the regular archaeological digs that take place on the site have unearthed some spectacular finds.
Your journey begins as you are welcomed by your steward, and shown to your seat. On board, beautifully laid tables with starched tablecloths, along with uniquely branded silverware, emphasise the elegant and comfortable carriages.
Fine dining is a highlight of every journey, and once you have settled into your seat, a delicious brunch with Bellini is served on the outward journey to Alnmouth. In the care of your steward, sit back and relax in the convivial atmosphere. The journey is as exciting as the destination.
On arrival at Alnmouth station, you are met by your guide who accompanies you on the coach transfer to Bamburgh Castle. On arrival at the Castle you are free to explore the museum room, grand king’s hall, cross hall, armoury and the Victorian scullery. In July, you can usually see live archaeology digs taking place. Perhaps witness a unique discovery in the Castles’ long and proud history.
Return to your coach for your short transfer back to the Northern Belle. A sumptuous dinner with champagne and wine is served whilst you recall the best moments of your day at Bamburgh Castle.
For sheer variety, class and romance, nothing beats a day out with Orient-Express.
What to wear: Smart day wear is appropriate, please do not wear jeans or trainers.
Access: The main entrance is not accessible by wheel chair due to the width of the medieval doorway. A separate entrance 10 metres before the main entrance provides access to the building and inside of the main entrance point. The first five castle rooms are accessible by wheel chair with a ramp (1:6) leading into the Kings Hall. For those visitors that have some independence from the wheelchair it may be possible to access further areas of the castle. All areas of the castle, with the exception of the dungeon are well lit.
Gift vouchers: You can buy an Orient Express gift voucher TODAY and surprise a friend or loved one with a Bamburgh Castle trip!
Booking online: Booking your Bamburgh Castle trip online is quick, simple and only takes a few moments. Simply select the amount of adult tickets you require next to the trip date below and complete the online booking form to reserve your places to avoid disappointment.
